'AT EASE!'
An Insight into the Cameronian Album away from the Battlefield

The latest Cameronian exhibition at Low Parks Museum opened on 5th July 2008 and will be open to the public until 5th May 2009.

The exhibition provides an alternative look at life in The Cameronians from early days as the 26th and 90th Regiments, until disbandment in 1968. Instead of focusing on military campaigns, the exhibition looks at how soldiers spent their day-to-day life in the Regiment, enjoying the same experiences and pastimes as civilians.

The exhibition begins with a look at Sport, Travel & Transport and Animals of the Regiment. Visitors can expect to see a range of items, from horses' hooves to a Boer War era tinned plum pudding and a sporting caricature album. We are also very pleased to be able to display the Dickin Medal won by Rifleman Khan, the famous alsatian who saved the life of his soldier comrade Corporal Muldoon. In private ownership, this medal is on public display for the first time.

The second part of the exhibition is based around a Mess room set which showcases Mess-related objects, from silverware to uniforms, which span the duration of the Regiment. Further displays explore Love & Relationshps, the Regiment's links with local Communities and the joining of the 26th and 90th Regiments, again using a variety of objects from the collection.

The exhibition concludes with a specially-commissioned disbandment film which combines extracts from the BBC film of the disbandment with images from the Museum's large photographic collection. This is balanced by a display which looks at the future of the Cameronian collection.

At Ease! includes many items which have never been displayed before in the Museum, as well as some recent acquisitions and some 'old favourites'. There are activities for children (or the young at heart) throughout the exhibition, and we hope that At Ease! will have something for everyone.
